What is it?

It's about time someone's taken a cue from Apple's aesthetic+ design. Intel announced a new category of laptops dubbed 'Ultrabook' earlier this past fall. These new laptops will most likely be Windows-based competitors to Apple's MacBook Air.  The Sponsors of Tomorrow wants to combine the portability of a tablet with the power of a traditional laptop. I've always loved the sleek and modern design of Apple, but have always been a Windows-user at heart. It's exciting to see such beautiful design (though obviously Apple inspired) grace the Windows world. Below are the initial guidelines Intel has set for the Ultrabook name:
  • Thin & Stylish: Likely to be in the 11-15" range, be feather-light, and less than an inch at it's thickest point.
  • Powerful: With core i5 and core i7, you really can't get much better. Second wave of Ultrabooks will most likely adorn even more powerful processors.
  • Fast: Utlizing SSD's, Ultrabooks are going to launch from cold boot in under a minute and launch applications in a few seconds. Intel claims "wake up" times of less than 2 seconds from deep sleep.
